Cornerstone - Arctic Monkeys
From their latest album, Humbug, I would say this is my favorite song on the album. Although Humbug all together is not one of my favorite albums, it does show growth and transition to a darker, more serious side of Arctic Monkeys. I do prefer the old sound, but like any good band, discovering the depths of uncharted musical territory is part of expanding their sound and growing up.
This is probably the most low budget music video… ever. Usually their videos are very complex, compelling, and pull a lot of thinking out of me, but it’s good to see something humorous I suppose. Alex Turner cracks me up. It is a lot better than the Crying Lightning video though. It’s probable that they were trying to recreate a more classic rock feeling to it, but the cheesy effects didn’t really work for me.

Happy birthday, John Winston Lennon. I still love you.

Last year on my birthday, I wrote about the meltdown of our economy and the $700 billion bailout bill Bush signed. Since then, things have mellowed out a bit, but I’m not really sure if that’s true or not because I haven’t really been following the news lately. Well, we have a new president now, one I don’t either love or hate, and something about healthcare. But there’s no real exciting headliners today, so I’ve decided to do a bit of researching.
According to BBC On This Day and Wikipedia, here are a few October 3rd gems:
1849: Edgar Allan Poe found delirious in a gutter. I’m just going to stop there with that story.
1863: The last Thursday of November declared Thanksgiving Day by President Abraham Lincoln. WOW, ABRAHAM LINCOLN! Like my third favorite president!
1952: Tea rationing ends. Britons will soon be able to enjoy unlimited “cuppas” for the first time in 12 years following an announcement from the Ministry of Food. HELL YEAH!!! Just kidding, I don’t even like tea.
1954: Also Stevie Ray Vaughan’s birthday.
1964: First Buffalo Wings are made at the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, New York, according to legend. OH GOD YES and now I know why they’re called buffalo wings.
1967: Woody Guthrie dies. Aw no! Bobby Dylan’s idol!
1992: Barack and Michelle Obama get married. Just one year before I’m born, I could be their kid! Someone run a parental test!
1995: OJ Simpson is found not guilty of the murders of his ex-wife Nicole and her friend Ronald Goldman. That’s the top story for all of the October 3rds, why!?!
2003: Roy Horn of Siegfried & Roy is attacked by one of the show’s tigers. Definitely wasn’t funny when this happened, but we can all look back and laugh now, right? Because this is kind of funny now that I know it was also his birthday.
Yeah yeah yeah my birthday is boring, I know, I’m bored too.

Blink 182
concert was yesterday. Went with Tiffany, Wesley, Din, his sister, and some Brian guy, although Tiffany and Wesley got VIP seats. Lucky bastards! Rained the whole time, completely soaked. Bought shirts first, I wore mine today, even though it was hella smelly and previously soaked with rain. Chester French played first, kinda sucked, missed the whole performance, but I’m not sorry. Taking Back Sunday was ok, I only knew like three songs, so it wasn’t that exciting. It started getting better during Weezer, but I couldn’t see anything! Stupid people who had seats wouldn’t sit down. All I could see was the backing change colors. Played most of my favorite Weezer songs. And then… BLINK 182!!! Opened with Dumpweed. So good, definitely played every single one of my top Blink songs, except Dysentery Gary and Adam’s Song, but it’s alright. Haha Mark and Tom… so funny, “We were coming together in Mark’s garage.” Or something like that. And then Travis and his fucking solo towards the end man! So good, I wanted to wet my pants. If only I could touch him… then maybe his powers will rub off on me.
